Lady Liberty / 2018 / Linocut, Paper / 18” x 23”

A call to action to bring about liberty and justice for women.

+ Wonder Woman
+ Lady Justice
+ Wonder Woman clothing from first issue of comic in 1941
+ Wonder Woman’s sword God Slayer from the 2017 film
+ Scales of Justice
+ American Constitution

Wonder Woman's sword is ready and at her side, implying that justice for womankind should be swift. She is dressed in the clothing of her first printing in 1941 in order to reference her original purpose as propaganda for creator William Moulton Marston’s belief in an inevitable matriarchy. The illustration also references the most recent rendition of Wonder Woman from the 2017 film by using her sword, God Slayer, instead of the generic sword the statue of justice holds. Referencing the most recent rendition of Wonder Woman was meant to tap into the deep feelings of relief and pride many women felt at seeing their childhood hero kick ass on the silver screen summer 2017. This print was based off the Sexual Assault Semiotics Poster Series.
